Gifu City Genta-mine (Mitahora Park – Trail of Genta-mine, a two-hour walking trail)

On the morning of Saturday, May 28, 2022, I headed up to Genta-mine from Mitahora Park in Gifu City. Before reaching the summit, I had to turn back due to a worrisome spot where I saw carpenter bees and horseflies. I’m going to climb Genta-mine again during the cold season when there is less activity of insects and other animals.

GPS logs were recorded using the smartphone sensor logging application phyphox (Physical Phone Experiments), following the procedure described here.

When taking pictures with a smartphone, the GPS logging is paused and then resumed.

Along the way, I saw and photographed a snake and animal droppings. I continued up, but became concerned about the carpenter bees and horseflies in the large space below the pylon, so I turned around there. I’m going to climb Genta-mine again during the cold season when there is less insect and animal activity. The trail along the ridge from the Mt. Iwai tourist road to Genta-mine was easy to walk, well maintained and the scenery was beautiful.
